Large Screen Interactive Display in Collaboration and Knowledge Management in R&D Centre.
Collaboration and Information Knowledge Management is an important process in any R&D Centre. Collaborative activities usually happen in a board where members of the research team throw ideas and manipulate information to seek a common understanding together.
The ink-based whiteboard or flip chart is statics and any information has to be written on the board itself. This takes very tedious process to convert individual research knowledge into the board. In addition, after collaboration effort, Information discussed in board has the tendency to get misplaced and lost. Newer technology such as scan-whiteboard and interactive protector board only allows some improvement, but not necessarily increase efficiency of managing knowledge generated from the discussion effort. A solution is needed to enable researcher to better manage their knowledge and collaboration activities.
Aim – To Build a prototype Large Screen multi-touch-Interactive Display System for the purpose of collaboration and management knowledge in R&D centre and ethnographically analyze the utilization and impact of the technology.
Motivation of Research – While doing a research in JAXA, i discovered there is a lack of collaboration tools to enhance discussion among research members and also traditional methods of capturing information and result seems very non-productive and time consuming. As a result, not all members are able to absorb the information effectively. After joining the IAF (International Astronautical Federation) Knowledge Management Study group lead by NASA KM specialist, I was introduced by NASA technology that has been used in the Mars Mission A Large Screen Interactive Display that allows collaboration and information management, which potentially solves the problems that my research team faced in JAXA. Another motivation of the research is by the progress of multi-touch technology for user-interface, the multi-touch technology is a new emerging technology that is being used in trend of next generation User-Interface.
